2024 Urban Coops is officially open!!.

I'm so eggcited for those of you considering or pursing dreams of raising Urban backyard hens. You have so much to look forward too: fresh organic eggs from your own sweet hens, finding your first egg, the joy of watching them run to you for their treats, their funny individual personalities and antics, dust bathing, snoozy warm hens on their roosts at night. Chickens are misunderstood!!. As you may have read on my webpage they remember faces, grieve, dream, have many vocalizations and are therapy animals for adults and children. From my own personal experience; they have enriched my life and brought me so much joy!!!.

As most of you know. I moved to Nova Scotia 2 years ago and now live on 4 glorious acres along the Medway River. Getting restarted with my new flock was top on my priority which happened last spring with 10 babies, 7/10 grew up to be boys which left me with only 3 girls. That is the risk I took purchasing unsexed babies. I'm not the type of country gal that can cull rooster's. In fact, I can't kill anything except mosquitos and black flies. I searched and found a rooster rescue in Mahone Bay for 6 of the guys and kept the one I was most attached too. That guy was Dude. I thought my Dude was going to break all the bad rumors about Roosters. He was lovely to the girls, even did a little rooster dance before jumping on, called them for special snackies with a sweet vocalization (maybe another opportunity to have a go when their heads were down?!), I could pick him up and cuddle him. Then spring arrived and Dude hit "Rooberty....that's right.....Rooster Puberty. Which is normal until.....he started attacking one of his sisters to the point of scalping her. I isolated her, tried to reintroduce her, put no pick on her, isolated him, googled, networked with other rooster peeps but nothing worked. So, I drove 2 hours round trip to Annapolis Valley to relinquish Dude to a rescue bachelor pad. My visions of a Dude and Nicola Miley Cyrus video were crushed. "I can buy myself CHICKENS....I can build my own coop........cause Dude Loves me better than..........!!! You get where this is going.

Ok Peeps.......Big announcement!!. This year I have posted all the prices and options on the website. That way; you have all the information to make an informed decision. Due to fluctuating lumber prices we may have to make some minor adjustments, hopefully lower not higher. My talented builder Ed worked very hard to keep prices as close as possible to last year, which is amazing. Thank you Ed!!
